I signed up in del.icio.us, but am not sure that this is my cup of tea. I get sidetracked too easily. I guess if you are a very mobile person, having access from any computer you sit down at would be a plus. Technorati looks interesting as a search tool for blogs, but I also get the feeling of Big Brother watching. As for Rollyo I have visited it a couple of times. I am not sold that Rollyo is for me. Many of the popular search engines were political in nature which if you tailor them to suit your views how are you going to broaden your horizons.

As for the articles regarding Library 2.0, Away from the Iceberg at first I was apprehensive I do want to cling to the collection, then I read Into a New World of Librarianship article, With all the new technologies WOW! What can't we do? I got really excited- to use the boat analogy from the Iceberg article- it makes it sound like the world is changing and librarians are in a boat on the crest of the new wave. I want to be on that boat. I continued to read the next article To More Powerful Ways To Cooperate all of a sudden my excitement falters, COOPERATION... we can't seem to cooperate among ourselves in one library, every department has there own agenda. Many of our librarians have great ideas, but they rely on the cooperation among ourselves and it ain't happening. To quote Rick Anderson...

We need to shift direction, and we can’t wait for the big ship of our profession to change course first. It’s going to have to happen one library—one little boat—at a time.

Our problem is all the departments in our library have their own paddles, some large and some teaspoon size, we may be in the same boat, but if you have a strong paddle on one side only- the boat will just row around in circles.

Week # 5

Well as you can see I generated a magazine cover. Are we sure the powers that be want us to learn more activities that will interfere with our productivity? Anyway, I have established a Bloglines account and signed up for feed from a few news sources. I would have to train myself to use this, because this morning without thinking I went straight to CNN.
